German sculptor and graphic artist, teacher at the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar from 1919 to 1924, head of the sculpture class at the Burg Giebichenstein art school in Halle from 1925, defamed as "degenerate" under the National Socialist dictatorship. His artistic estate is administered at the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus Bremen: www.marcks.de.
