These watches are often sold as "Stasi" watches, although the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) included the People's Police and combat groups. It was also responsible for the fire departments, the penal system, the passport and registration system as well as the registration of motor vehicles and the issuing of driving licenses. The Ministry for State Security (MfS or Stasi) was also responsible for internal security, but included other organs (e.g. domestic and foreign secret service of the GDR, investigative authority for "political crimes") than the MdI.
