Large chromolite wall plate with dwarf motif. Villeroy & Boch.
Embossed tower mark "Mettlach" with the addition "Protected against reproduction", from 1887. Inscribed "H. Schlitt" at bottom right. Design: Heinrich SCHLITT (1848-1923). Model no. 2112.
Colored, incised fine stoneware, gold rim in relief. Ø 41.5 cm.
Dwarf sitting in a nest with wine bottles, surrounded by grapevines and insects. Rope suspension. Slightly rubbed gold.
The Munich painter Heinrich Schlitt studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and designed various jug and wall plate motifs for Mettlach. He became particularly well known for his humorous dwarf and fairy tale motifs. The wall plate is listed in the Mettlach product catalog from 1899.
