Infantry sword, c. 1700.
Saxony.
Blade L 76.5 cm, total L 90 cm.
Straight, single-edged blade, double-edged at the point with a narrow fuller in the back and a point in the midline. Crowned monogram "AR" on both sides. Iron hilt with a heart-shaped, perforated and asymmetrical guard plate. The knucklebow partly with nodi, thumb ring. Grip with twisted wire winding. The hilt screwed to the conical pommel.
"Swords of the type described - with an iron hilt - were carried in the Saxon infantry regiments until around 1730".
