Precious sword, year mark 1965, 1st choice. Marked. Model no.: A 1059. design: 1895. GAUL, August (1869 Großauheim - 1921 Berlin)
Böttger stoneware. H 9 cm.
"After the death of August Gaul (1869 - 1921) in 1921, the Meissen manufactory purchased
models posthumously from his heirs. From February 1922 to 1926, 18 different
animal models were produced in white porcelain without any painting and in Böttger stoneware. These included the figure of the small, eating bear, whose porcelain version shows a more differentiated design than the version in Böttger stoneware. This makes it clear that Gaul's models were not originally conceived for execution in ceramic materials, but rather as bronzes.
ceramic materials, but were rather intended as bronze sculptures." (Petra Werner, in: Catalog: Auf der Pirsch - Jagdbare Tiere in Porzellan, Porzellanikon (vol. 117), Hohenberg a.d. Eger 2015, p. 49/cat. no. 45).
