Pompous wall plate. County Stolberg-Wernigerödische Faktorei Ilsenburg.
Distinctly marked. Late 19th century
Cast iron, painted green, hanging loop. Ø 52 cm. 6.4 kg.
Exceedingly rich plate in relief with a circle of putti in the center, surrounded by a griffin vine with the months January to June. On the rim female allegories for the 6 months/zodiac signs. Slightly rubbed and soiled.
Recast of one of the two rose water bowls by Léonard Morel Ladeuil (1820 - 1888) from England, who was one of the most important chasers of his time and designed the bowls for Elkington & Co. in Birmingham. The bowls were presented at the Paris World Exhibition in 1877. Presumably even before the exhibition, the Ilsenburg art foundry acquired these models for its own realization in iron art casting.
