Extremely rare figurine: Pied Piper of Hamelin. KPM Berlin.
1913. model no. 9044.
Height: 18.5 cm, height without base: 13 cm.
KPM Berlin model from 1908. Painted in color, painted gold. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, red jubilee mark, black, red and gold painter's marks, press mark.
The figure is a replica of a Renaissance bronze from the former Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum (now the Bode-Museum). According to the attribution, the bronze figure (height: 14.5 cm) is from the workshop of Giovanni da Bologna (1529 Douai - 1608 Florence) or from his pupil Giovanni Francesco Susini (1585-1653).
The Pied Piper of Hamelin is one of the most famous German legends and has been translated into more than 30 languages. KPM model book entry October 1908: "Small bagpiper plaster model purchased. Museum". The painting and the connection to the Pied Piper of Hamelin is an invention of the KPM workshop; the figure was probably rarely or never produced. We would like to thank Mr. Tim D. Gronert, Kunsthandel, Berlin * Partnerauktion Bergmann for his detailed research.
