Beech, painted in mahogany. H approx. 72.5 cm, seat height approx. 48 cm.
Armchair in design Art Nouveau style with round, upholstered seat, wide curved shoulder board and vertically projected backrest; light cover with ornaments typical of the style. Fully restored.
Bentwood is bent under steam using a process developed by Michael Thonet around 1830. After the privilege granted in 1856 to "manufacture furniture from solid bentwood" was annulled in 1869, numerous furniture factories emerged - including J. & J. Kohn, which further developed the process so that angular wooden bars could also be processed.
