Latvian baroque punch bowl.
Riga 18th century.
Silver. Length: 42 cm.
Inlaid Russian token from 1764 on the visit of Tsarina Catherine the Great to Ernst Johann von Biron, Duke of Courland and Semgallen (1690-1772) in the Electoral capital Mitau. The token: palm tree with the coat of arms of the Electorate of Courland in the center of the front, castle and city view of Mitau on the side, radiant sun at the top, part of the zodiac, above: SIDERIS ASPECTU BEATA, inscription with date on the reverse: IN MEMORIAM LAETITIAE QUAM EX ADVENTU SER: ET POT: OMN. RUSS: IMP: OVANS CURONA PERCEPIT ANNO MDCCLXIV. Turned curved wooden handle with silver cuff. Hallmarks: City mark, master's mark ICB. Jeton with small scratch, spoon partially restored at the rim.
