Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised, model and stamped decoration, painted cobalt blue. H 26 cm.

Cylindrical jug with pointed ear handle. Pearl-rimmed relief overlay with winged angel heads and flowering branches, surrounded by heart motifs in knibis technique and incised flowers with indented circles. Profiled pewter lid with ball finial, punched on the inside (Martin Edmann (ca. 1680-1745), master from 1714 in Bautzen), pewter strap on the neck, pewter stand ring. Jug with fine cracks on the base, pewter with major defects, additions, missing pewter band on the handle and signs of age.

The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke's abdication in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
