Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 25.5 cm.

Cylindrical shape with pointed ear handle. On the front a curved reserve with bird, flanking spiral tendrils and diamond bands. Flat pewter lid with engraved baroque reserve, foliage and ball pusher, punched on the inside. Lid loosened.

The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
