2 Westerwald roller jugs with baroque floral patterns.

Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised, model and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H approx. 25 cm each.
Cylinder jugs with tapered ear handles. 1x elaborate baroque pattern with applied pearl band diamonds and floral tendrils, 1x circular medallion with flower. Each with engraved pewter lid and ball finial, the interior partly indistinctly hallmarked. Signs of age and wear, 1 jug slightly cracked, each with defects to the pewter, 1x old repair.
The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
Provenance : From Thuringian aristocratic property. Restitution property with inventory number of the Altenburg Residential Palace, formerly part of the von der Gabelentz family collection at Poschwitz Castle.
