Once framed "Durch Kunst wird alle Welt erlöst die unerwacht im Dunkel döst", below handwritten "Ein gutes 1965: Gerhard und Maria Marcks", another loose with a grapevine on which two grape umbels hang, surrounded by the saying "K kaum zu glauben: Trägt noch Trauben", below handwritten "Herzlich dankkt der 80 jährige Gerhard Marcks".
German sculptor and graphic artist, teacher at the State Bauhaus in Weimar from 1919 to 1924, head of the sculpture class at the Burg Giebichenstein art school in Halle from 1925, defamed as "degenerate" under the National Socialist dictatorship. His artistic estate is administered at the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus Bremen: www.marcks.de.
