Plate with a portrait of a lady, according to the inscription of Princess Dorothea Maria of Saxe-Gotha (1674 - 1713) as a bust in three-quarter profile in an oval frame, above an arranged curtain, below two putti, commemorative or memorial portrait. Inscription: "D.G.Dorothea Maria Dux Saxo Gothana. Nupta Seren. Ernesto Ludivico Duc Saxo Coburg Meining. Nata d. XXII Jun. MDCLXXIV denat. d. XVIII I Apr. MDCCXIII Heicpatrice Chariten Summa virtute nitentem Eusebiam populi deliciasa vides. Ast umbram saltim Coelesti in sede Eoruscat. Mens cognata DEO DOROTHEA fuit. Bernigeroth fc. [...]". tiny notch in the center of the plate.
Impression with the same motif in the art collections of the Veste Coburg; / Martin Bernigeroth was the electoral engraver in Leipzig from 1707, where he learned the craft of engraving from Erasmus Anderson from 1685.
