Former Teddy.
Unmarked. Circa 1910/20.
Remnants of blond mohair. L 21.5 cm.
Small, bald teddy bear with black shoe-button eyes. Comes with correspondence between the consignor and the Steiff Museum in Giengen about the teddy bear. Heavily worn, eyes probably replaced, several repairs.
The cut in the tummy was made by the consignor's mother in 1947 and sewn up again. The belly served as a hiding place for smuggling during the post-war period (e.g. jewelry in exchange for food).
