Metal casting with bronze patina, stone base. Inscribed with double names, foundry mark "H. Noack Berlin". H 32 / 39 cm. 9.0 kg.
Psychologically captured portrait of a young woman. Minimal signs of age/use.
She studied as a private pupil with Gerhard Janensch in Berlin. As early as 1905, she made her debut with a portrait bust at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition, where she was also represented in 1916 and 1927. In 1914, she moved to Hamburg after marrying the physician Professor Dr. Friedrich Matthaei. Matthaei-Mitscherlich had a major solo exhibition at the Commeter Gallery in 1930; she emigrated to America in 1948.
