Foundation-era writing cabinet.
Mahogany, burlwood and other woods, solid and veneered, stained mahogany. Approx. 217 x 109 x 60.5 cm.
2-door body with hinged writing top and 3 pedestal drawers, on 2 pressed ball feet and 2 block feet. Side full columns on projecting pedestals with diamond ashlars, coffered fronts partly with framing strips, Wilhelminian keyhole fittings and brass bow handles. Single-door with open central compartment with decorative columns at the sides and mock book back, 5 small drawers and 1 pedestal drawer with 3 mock drawers with band-inlaid fronts and wooden knobs, 2 small open storage compartments with secret compartments behind them. As an addition, a crowning arched pediment with turnery and railing, only loosely attached. Slight signs of age and use, small defects in places, top crown and block feet loosely attached, shelf for top compartment missing, drawers without matching key, writing tablet difficult to lock with key.
