Pendant ivory busts: Goethe and Schiller
Ivory, granite plinth. 19th century, stone base younger. Each inscribed. H 7.5 / 10 cm.
Very high quality carved portraits of the poets after the models of Christian Daniel Rauch and Johann Heinrich Dannecker. Goethe barely, Schiller more hairline cracked.
Trained under the Viennese sculptor Friedrich Schmidt and studied at the Vienna Academy. Schrödl exhibited an ivory portrait for the first time in 1841. From 1848, he traveled throughout Europe, e.g. to Dresden, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt and Paris. He received numerous commissions from high-ranking individuals, such as the imperial and tsarist families, the Duke of Hamilton, the Rothschild family, Emperor Napoleon III, etc. / EU trade license is available.
