Flora Danica (Latin for Danish plant world) is the botanical name of a botanical plate work that was begun by Georg Christian Oeder in 1753 and not completed until 1883. This plate is a very rare plate from the original Flora Danica dinner service from 1790 to 1802, ordered by the Danish Crown Prince and later King Frederick VI of Denmark. Of these plates from the original service, only three comparable plates exist in Danish private ownership, and presumably only 11 pieces in private collections worldwide. the engraving was acquired as a supplement to the plate in Finnerups Antikvariat, Copenhagen. It is an original engraving from the period between 1761 and 1771.
Provenance : Privately owned, probably once part of the royal collection. The plate was presented to the "Royal Danish Collection Rosenborg" and its provenance was confirmed. There are no claims from the museum. All lots with a limit (starting price) of at least €1,500 are checked against the Art Loss Register database. The individual check with "The Art Loss Register" revealed no concerns regarding potentially disputed ownership claims. Certificate is available.
