Large 186-piece designer cutlery set: design by Josef Hoffmann. Carl Hugo Pott, Solingen.

 

Sterling silver (925 silver). Length: 11-29 cm. 6065 grams (weighed without knife).

Model year: 1955, cutlery pattern no. 86. 186 pieces: 15 dinner knives, 15 dinner forks, 12 dinner spoons, 15 dinner knives, 15 dinner forks, 10 dinner spoons, 15 cake forks, 12 fish knives, 10 lobster forks, 15 dessert spoons, 6 coffee spoons, 6 fruit forks, 6 fruit knives, 4 lemonade spoons, 4 serving spoons, 1 ladle, 3 sauce ladles, 2 lifters, 1 butter knife, 2 different cheese knives, 6 small serving forks, 6 medium serving forks, 3 different serving forks, 1 fish serving fork, 1 fish serving knife. Design classic, solid quality work, knives with original stainless steel blades. Hallmarks: Crescent and crown, hallmark, factory mark. Pott's "Historical Models" will continue to be produced once a year by pre-order.

The cutlery manufactory was founded by Carl Hugo Pott in 1904 as a damascening workshop in Solingen; after his son Carl Pott joined the company in 1932, it developed into a major manufacturer of cutlery, and in 1985 his son Hannspeter Pott took over the business. Hoffmann (1870-1956), architect and designer, studied at the Academy in Vienna, 1899-1937 professor at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. Co-founder of the Vienna Secession and the Wiener Werkstätte, the Deutscher Werkbund and the Österreichischer Werkbund. Pott-Manufaktur price: approx. 50,000 euros * Partner auction Bergmann
