Probably a work from the workshop of Bernardino Luini (actually Bernardino Scapi), 1482 Dumenza - 1532 Milan. The painting shows a soft manner, with timid Leonardesque faces. Numbered on the reverse: 1762, a blurred inscription, presumably Luini. Stucco frame early 19th century. Visibly attached strips on three sides on the reverse, a vertical crack at the top.

Luini, Italian painter, father of Evangelista, Aurelio and Gian Pietro. Nothing is known about his training, initially influenced by Ambrogio da Fossano, known as Bergognone, and the work of Raphael, later by Leonardo da Vinci, who worked in Milan for a time.
