Metal. Diameter 6.0, height 11.5 cm (measured with crank), the sleeve diameter 6.5, height 13.5 cm. 0.506 kg (including sleeve).
Mechanical calculating machine operated by graduated rollers. The principle underlying the calculating machine was patented by the Austrian inventor Curt Herzstark in 1938 and he was able to have his invention built by Contina AG in Liechtenstein in 1947 after the end of the Second World War and liberation from the Buchenwald concentration camp. The CURTA, named after its inventor, is capable of the four basic arithmetic operations, can take square roots and operates in a number range of up to 11 digits. Some signs of age and use on the metal case, with a few dents and some restored paint damage, especially on the lid.
Inscribed on the underside "System Curt Herzstark Made in Liechtenstein by Contina Ltd Mautren" and the production number 505200. Enclosed are operating instructions and a modern information sheet.
