In 1650, the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich Wilhelm gave his wife Louise Henriette von Oranien the domain of Bötzow "with all the associated villages, fields, outbuildings, sheep farms, mills, drifts, pastures, fisheries in the Havel, the lakes and the carp ponds."[4] In 1652, a Dutch-style castle was built in Bötzow, which was given the name Oranienburg.
