Alabaster. Late 19th century Inscribed with date "C. Summers. Sc Rome. 1872". H 52 cm. 34.1 kg.
Young girl with long, curly hair held out of her face by a headband, on a round base. Small chip to the upper lip.
If Charles Summers, then: English sculptor who worked in London, Melbourne and Rome. He was an important figure in the Australian art world of the 1850s and 60s and is best known as the creator of the monument to the explorers Burke and Wills in Melbourne.
