Large figural chandelier with silver group. Meissen.
Design 1880-1923. model year: 1766, model no. A 96 (new mold no. 79020). Model from. KAENDLER, Johann Joachim(1706 Dresden - 1775 Meissen)
Height: 73 cm.
Painted in color, painted gold. Surrounded by vines and grapes in relief. 7-flame, removable chandelier attachment. Unglazed base, incised mark, impressed mark, sword mark. Firing crack in the base, base rim slightly chipped, some leaves chipped, various leaves, grapes, front section with donkey and Silen, as well as candelabra attachment largely restored, one arm each of Bacchus and Bacchus flasks restored, donkey's tail loose.
* Kaendler 1766: "For the large Bacchinian plate de menage alwo Silenus auf dem Esel reutet nach stehende vielen neuen Modelle aus gestellet, damit selbiges in Zukunft als ein großes Parade Stück auf Tafeln gebrauchet kann". *Kaendler, court sculptor and modeller, at the Meissen manufactory from 1731, head of the sculpture department from 1749.
