Cup "Opera House in Berlin".

Polychrome painted, decorated in gold. Cup (H 10 cm), completed saucer (Ø 14.5 cm).
Cratered cup with pearl band, rosette handle and three paw feet. In a gold-framed rectangular cartouche the inscribed depiction of the opera house in Berlin (today Staatsoper unter den Linden), verso vegetal gold painting. Handle glued, saucer restored.
The opera house on the boulevard Unter den Linden in Berlin's Mitte district is the venue of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. It was built between 1741 and 1743 by order of King Frederick the Great according to plans by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff in the Rococo style. Burned out during the Second World War, the opera house was rebuilt between 1951 and 1955 according to plans by Richard Paulick as part of the Forum Fridericianum.
