The New Palace in Potsdam at the western end of Sanssouci Park was built between 1763 and 1769 under Frederick the Great as a demonstration of Prussian power after the Seven Years' War (in contrast to the more intimate Sanssouci). It served as a royal guest and festival palace with magnificent halls, galleries, the baroque palace theater and impressive farm buildings and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a significant monument to Prussian history.
