* Exter (Julius Leopold Bernhard), painter, draughtsman, sculptor, father of Judith and Karl Exter, studied at the academy in Munich, freelance since 1884, founding member of the Munich Secession in 1892, titular professor in 1902, ran his own painting school in Übersee-Feldwies am Chiemsee from 1902-1916, represented at major exhibitions in Berlin and Munich since the 1890s, numerous works in German museums. * In 1972, his daughter Judith bequeathed her father's estate and the house in Feldwies to the Bavarian state in return for a life annuity; the Künstlerhaus Exter is open to the public as a gallery and museum.

Provenance : * Partner auction Bergmann (the responsibility for legally compliant consignment and description lies with Auktionshaus Bergmann, Erlangen), since 1996 southern German private property, previously private property, Solothurn, acquired from the exhibition in the Künstlerhaus Exter, Übersee-Feldwies am Chiemsee.
