Empire bronze pendulum with allegory of art.
France. 1. H. 19th century
Unmarked movement with half-hour strike on bell. Functional in short time test. white enamel dial marked "Mathieu L'ainé à Paris" with Roman and Arabic numerals, minute ring and brass hands.
Bonze, matt and bright gold-plated. 42.5 x 39 x 14 cm.
Standing female antique figure with a quill, surrounded by a (Gallic) cockerel and a dog, next to a smoking vessel on a stand. On a stepped base with classical friezes, lyre motifs and a woman's head in a medallion, on six feet. Slight signs of age and wear, branch retouched, traces of soldering.
With key and pendulum. Claude-Mathieu dit l'Aîné (1722-around 1815), French clockmaker, master since 1754.
