Large marble bust: Cleopatra
White marble, partly colored. Without signature. 46 x 48.5 x 29 cm. 43.40 kg.
Bust of a young woman holding a snake in her hand. She wears a richly decorated necklace around her neck as well as jewelry on her right upper arm and a diadem with a uraeus snake. The bust probably shows Cleopatra shortly before her suicide by the bite of a poisonous snake. Possibly a work by Aristide Petrilli (1868 Tivoli - 1930?). Rubbed paint, snake partly broken off and glued, minor chips, base missing.
Provenance : Museum estate of Peter Kaus.
