Bust of a young woman
Alabaster, bronze, on a stone base. inscribed "Asti". 36 x 32.5 x 18 cm. 13.17 kg.
Bust of a young woman with a devoutly lowered gaze and headscarf, similar to a chryselephantine work. The designation "Asti" could indicate that it is a bust after the painter Angelo Asti (1847 Paris - 1903 Mantua) or in his style, as he was known for his idealized portraits of women, which were transferred to various porcelain products or published by the English company Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd. in the form of postcards. Signs of age and wear, alabaster chipped (left eye, hair, headscarf), bronze stained and with patina (verdigris), base chipped.
Provenance : Museum estate of Peter Kaus.
