Patinated bronze. inscribed "Delaplanche 1873", foundry mark "F. Barbedienne Fondeur Paris" and "Réduction Mécanique A. Collas Brevete", with mark "813". H 30.5 cm. 10.80 kg.
Mother seated on a chair, next to her a young girl reading aloud from a book with the help of a reading stick held by her mother. Patina minimally rubbed.
If it should be Eugène Delaplanche, then: French sculptor (1836 Belleville (today Paris) - 1891 Paris), pupil of the sculptor Francisque Joseph Duret. A monumental marble sculpture of this motif has been on Place Samuel-Rousseau in Paris since 1875.
