Large marble figure "Sitzende Badende"
White marble. "K. Kiefer Munich 1916" inscribed and dated. 56 x 44 x 30 cm. 49.40 kg.
Female nude sitting on a cloth with her hair pinned up and a worried backward gaze. Possibly the depiction of Susanna in the bath. Various restorations (neck area, right foot (big toe missing), surface with abrasions, partially soiled.
Karl Kiefer: German sculptor, represented at numerous art exhibitions during the Art Nouveau period, mainly created naturalistic human figures based on antique models as well as funerary monuments, professor in Munich from 1925. Provenance : Museum estate Peter Kaus; purchased at auction for 5.500 € at Kunst- und Auktionshaus Döbritz on 14.03.2009 (purchase invoice available).
