Terracotta group: Mary Immaculate with Child Jesus
Terracotta, greyish-brown. inscribed "Boizot", with "Double Louis" Sèvres mark. H 42.5 cm. 4.25 kg.
On a round base, a seated Mary with the boy Jesus in her arms and a writhing snake on the base. Signs of age and wear, chipped (on the back, on the snake's head), a few hairline cracks, snake's tail and left arm of the child Jesus broken and glued, fingers of the child Jesus' left hand and toes of the Madonna's right foot defective.
If it is Louis-Simon Boizot, then: French sculptor (1743 - 1809), from 1773 to 1800 he ran the sculpture workshop of the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, his models for bisque porcelain figures for the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres are better known than his large-scale sculptures.
