Large terracotta nude on velvet-covered plinth
Terracotta, on velvet-covered plinth. inscribed "V. Navarro", plinth plaque inscribed "Vicente Navarro 1888". H 164 cm / 82 cm. Total weight 32 kg.
The figure of a woman stands on a high, polygonal base covered in green velvet. She is depicted from the thighs upwards. A cloth lies loosely over her right shoulder and appears to be draped around her body, presumably serving as a carrier for the flowers she is holding in her hands, leaning against her left hip. Slight signs of age and wear, minor chipping and cracks, possible remains of a painted version.
If this is Vicente Navarro Romero, then: Spanish sculptor and painter (1888 Valencia - 1979 Barcelona), trained at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, where he was a student of López Mezquita, traveled to Rome, received an apprenticeship at the Escuela de La Lonja in Barcelona in 1918, was an academician in San Carlos, San Jorge and San Fernando.
