Large group of figures: Hercules and Omphale. Meissen.
Cast 1880-1923. model year: 1762, model no. 2927, 2932.
Height: 47 cm (without pedestal), height: 50 cm (with pedestal).
Model by Johann Joachim Kaendler and collaborators. From a series of 8 mythological lovers. Painted in color, gold painted. Unglazed base, incised marks, pressed marks, sword marks. 2-piece group on a loose wooden plinth. One leg, one arm, wings of the armor, a tree stump, some small leaves, thread, spindle tip restored, a small glaze defect on the arm, two fingers chipped (original loose), iron pin mounting, small hairline crack in the base of the omphale, claws of the lion's paws, one hand of the omphale restored.
* Kaendler, court sculptor and modeller, at the Meissen manufactory from 1731, head of the sculpture department from 1749. An ingenious creator of the European porcelain figure.
