Large group of figures: Apollo and Daphne. Meissen.
Mold 1935-1947. model year: 1762, model no. 2900 (new mold no. 73550).
Height: 50 cm (with pedestal).
Model by Johann Joachim Kaendler and collaborators. From a series of 8 mythological lovers. Painted in color, gold painted. Unglazed base, incised marks, impressed marks, painter's marks, sword marks on the base. 2-piece group mounted on wooden pedestal with velvet cover. Daphne: in the lower tree fire crack, one finger, leaves, branches restored, one finger glued, one branch, some leaves chipped (branch, three leaves originally loose), Apollo: partially small fire cracks, one thumb restored, one small shell rocaille, cloth partially slightly chipped, small glaze defect on the back.
* Kaendler, court sculptor and modeller, at the Meissen manufactory from 1731, head of the sculpture department from 1749. An ingenious creator of the European porcelain figure.
