Centerpiece in the shape of a Greek bowl with handle.
"F. Levillain" inscribed in the medallion, foundry mark "F. Barbedienne" on the rim of the bowl. Probably 2nd half of the 19th century
Bronze patinated, partly painted gold. H 15.5 cm, Ø 34 cm (bowl without handle), W 48 cm (with handle). 5.14 kg.
Flat kylix standing on a disc base with side handles with Dionysus motifs and a relief medallion in the mirror with two nude men carrying an amphora on a pole and surrounded by vine leaves. Patina and paint rubbed, extensive patina (verdigris).
If Ferdinand Levillain, then: French sculptor (1837 - 1905), made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1861, gained recognition in the 1860s and 1870s for his works with barbedienne.
