"Rough Touch"
Gouache in grisaille, highlighted in white. Signed in pencil lower right.
Image dimensions: 62.5 x 51.5 cm. Framed & under glass : 67.5 x 56.5 cm (beige frame).
Illustration for *Die Fliegenden Blätter*, Volume 133, Issue 3404, p. 186. There it is titled “Rough Touch” and captioned “Aviation Commission: ‘The planned overland flight will also pass over the village of Distelberg.’ Mayor: ‘No way, Commissioner!’ Recently, there were also rumors that aviator Surrer would touch down in our village, and meanwhile, while flying over, he’s already flattened the parsonage, a tower, and six haylofts. We’ll pass on that kind of ‘touch.’" The scene depicted here is the previous event to which the mayor refers in the fictional dialogue. Slight signs of aging.
Painter in Munich, a student at the Academy there, worked for the “Fliegende Blätter” as seen here.
