Telescope.
Brass, wooden case. Length of the telescope: 118.5 cm. The telescope (without case) weighs 6.60 kg; with case, 14.5 kg.
Probably between approx. 1878 and 1895. Stamped A Bardou Paris. Telescope in its original case with a lid to protect the lens and an additional extension tube. The telescope has a noticeable dent, as does the included extension tube. Slight signs of age and oxidation on the brass. The lid of the original wooden case is slightly warped; one hook is broken off; no key included. Functionality not tested.
Maison Bardou, founded in 1818, specialized in telescopes in the good mid-price range. Denis Albert Bardou (1841–1893) was the grandson of the company’s founder and continued the tradition of building optical instruments.
