Bust of a young man. This portrait of Antoine Barnave (1761–1793), a French politician during the French Revolution, was likely created by Houdon around 1790; it is now housed in the Musée de Grenoble. Signs of age and wear, minor chips and scratches, the patina partially worn away.
Jean-Antoine Houdon: French sculptor; at age 15, he began a sculpture apprenticeship at the École de l’Académie royale, studying under Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne; stayed in Gotha from 1771 to 1773 and worked for the Prince of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg.
