Man with a Rearing Horse
Patinated bronze. Signed “Coustou.” 50.5 x 40 x 24 cm. 14.2 kg.
A man clad only in a cloth around his loins holds the reins of a rearing horse to his right. Based on the large marble sculpture “Chevaux de Marly” from 1745, which is now in the Musée du Louvre. Signs of age and wear, minor scratches and cracks, a few holes (max. Ø 0.5 cm).
Guillaume Coustou the Elder: French painter and sculptor, trained in Paris under Antoine Coysevox and in Rome under Pierre Le Gros the Younger.
