Dancing Bacchante with a Panther
Patinated bronze. Marked "H. Wittig 1866." H 58 cm. 20.65 kg.
Semi-nude figure of a young woman with a wreath of grapevines in her hair, holding grapes and a bowl in her hands. She is accompanied by a panther, the companion animal of Bacchus, the god of wine, which is rearing up toward the grapes. Patina worn away in places, some scratches and dents, small holes in the robe, possibly remnants of the casting mold that were not chiseled away (woman: neck, left upper arm, right wrist, waist, robe around the right foot; Panther: neck, left and right front legs, right hind leg, tail).
