Painter and graphic artist from Dresden, student of Emanuel Hegenbarth, master student under Otto Gussmann, co-founder of the “Dresden Secession Group 1919,” his works were defamed as “degenerate” during the Nazi era; a large portion of his body of work was lost during that time; after 1945, he worked as an artist in Dresden, particularly known for his illustrations, such as those for Goethe’s “Faust” or Gerhard Hauptmann’s “Die Weber.”
