Peasant Woman with Cow
Patinated bronze. Signed "I. Bonheur"; inscription on the base: "Tir aux pigeons d'Estelan, June 1887". 32.5 x 43 x 17.5 cm. 10.85 kg.
A young peasant woman, deeply absorbed in knitting a scarf, leans comfortably against her grazing cow. Barely any signs of age or wear; patina partially worn away; knitting needle broken.
Isidore Jules Bonheur: French sculptor, brother of Rosa Bonheur; studied painting at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts beginning in 1849.
