Patinated bronze. Signed "E. Picault." 67.5 x 30.5 x 26 cm. 23.6 kg.
Two women are seated on a sphere carried by waves. The upper, seated female figure wears a long, flowing robe and raises her right arm, in whose hand she holds a flower. The second woman is reclining next to her on the sphere. The plaque attached to the sphere bears an excerpt from Alphonse de Lamartine’s romantic poem “Ischia”. Signs of age and wear; patina worn.
Emile Louis Picault: French sculptor, a student of the painter Henri Royer, who primarily created allegorical, mythological, or patriotic motifs, as well as historical figures and literary characters.
