Bronze figure of a Gallic warrior with a drinking horn
Patinated bronze. Inscribed “F. Richter Fec.” H 37.5 cm. 4.55 kg.
Standing warrior in a fur-like robe, wearing a winged helmet, carrying a shield and sword, holding a drinking horn in his hand. Patina partially worn away; the attachment of the drinking horn has been restored in a makeshift manner; some scratches.
If this is by Fritz Richter-Elsner, then: German sculptor (1884 Köppelsdorf – 1970 Detmold), studied under Reinhard Möller at the Sonneberg School of Industry and Applied Arts, then studied in Munich; from 1905 to 1916, he was artistic director of the Oscar Gladenbeck & Co. foundry; from the 1920s onward, he focused on the design of monuments.
