Art Nouveau bust of a girl with cherries
Bronze with a reddish patina. Marked "G. van der Straeten," foundry mark "Société des Bronzes de Paris." H 39.5 cm. 5.7 kg.
Bust of a laughing girl with her hair tied back, wearing a large hat and holding cherries in her mouth. Slight signs of age and wear; patina partially worn away.
Georges van der Straeten: Belgian sculptor; from 1882, he was a student of the sculptors Jef Lambeaux and Gustave Kasteleyn; his preferred materials were bronze, chryselephantine, and terracotta.
