Rare baroque dog head bowl. Meissen.
Sword mark, circa 1745.
Polychrome painted, gold decorated. L 32 cm.
Dish as presentoir for vinegar/oil jug, originally part of a baroque plat de ménage. Oval bowl with matching curved rim, four dog head handles and four dolphin feet. Polychrome painted with small floral bouquets and scattered florets, in the bottom two holes for the metal mounting of a holder for decanters, the remaining holes probably pierced ash dots. Underneath chip and partly chips at the drilled holes, 1 dog's ear bumped, fire crack at 1 dolphin foot.
