German painter and graphic artist who was forced to go underground from 1942 to 1945. He lived in Israel from 1948 and had contact with intellectual circles and painters. In 1955 he moved to the GDR and attended the Leipzig School of Applied Arts from 1960 to 1962, graduating in theater painting. He lived and worked freelance in Leipzig from 1968, but moved to Munich in 1980. He is a member of the Bund Bildender Künstler/Munich and Upper Bavaria, the Freie Akademie der Künste Leipzig and an honorary member of the Bund Bildender Künstler in Leipzig. His roots lie in classical modernism. His liberties to abstraction soon made him a point of attraction for many young autodidacts and students of the art academy in Leipzig, who rejected the one-sided art doctrine of the GDR.
